Biggest loss at Corio Oval
A week after registering their biggest ever win to that point against Fitzroy, Melbourne travelled to the Corio Oval and suffered their greatest ever loss at the ground.
The clash was billed as the 'match of the day' but Melbourne were disappointing. Only the solid work of their defenders and the inaccurate kicking of the Pivotonians kept them close until half time after a scrambling second quarter where each side scored a goal each.
Melbourne's forwards were being well held, but they had a brief burst in the third term and drew to within a goal before running out of steam. From there the home side piled on 10 goals to nil to win easily.
Jack Mueller, John Lewis and Ray Wartman were Melbourne's best. Taylor suffered an injured knee and Foster an injured ankle.
