In their season opener, a Melbourne side that had lost significant experience since 2023 came out on top of the side that knocked them out of the previous finals series. They conceded the first two goals, before Captain Kate Hore helped lift her team to the lead with three goals. They looked to have the game won when more than a goal ahead with a minute left, before Paxy Paxman conceded a free kick for not giving the ball directly back to the umpire before a ball-up. Ex-Demon Jacqueline Perry cut the margin to two points, but the visitors held on to win.

Best were Hore, Mackin and Pearce. Tayla Harris suffered a season-ending shoulder injury.
