1972 Reserves Grand Final

Saturday 7 October - MCG

Hawthorn 13.10.88
Melbourne 12.12.84

Hawthorn won by 4 points

Goalkickers: - Ritterman 3, Clark 2, Sinclair 2, Williamson 2, Osborne 1, Reid 1, Harrold 1

After Hawthorn's Under 19s won the premiership, their Reserves followed up to do the double.

Melbourne trailed for most of the day before storming home and only losing the match in time on of the last quarter. There was a controversial finish when Hawthorn's only goal of the last quarter was hotly disputed by Melbourne defenders claiming they'd touched it.

The Demons only had themselves to blame for inaccurate kicking, but they did have claims to be hard done by from a draw in a senior finals game that left them three weeks without a match.

Best were Clark, Ritterman and Dillon
