Played one game in 1972, before returning for two more games in 1974.

The next year Reid joined Footscray, where he stayed for seven seasons. At first he was used sparingly, playing one game in each of his first two years before becoming a fixture in the side

In 1982 he joined the recently relocated Sydney and played two years with them. He was later their Reserves coach. In 1988 he was appointed the club's football manager, remaining in the job until being sacked by the ailing club in early 1991.

His father Bruce Snr played 28 games at Footscray, and his brother Bruce Jnr 119 for Footscray and Carlton.

Collingwood player Ben Reid and Sydney Swans player Sam Reid are his nephews.
