Melbourne win by 8 points

Goalkickers: Norm Smith 4, Harold Ball 3, Ron Baggott 3, Ken Feltscheer 2, Bill Sweeney 1, Len Smith 1

After an even first quarter in a special Show Day match Melbourne ran riot in the second term with six goals to two - including three in ten minutes to Norm Smith - and booked their place in their fifth straight Seconds GF.

In an even first quarter Collingwood were forced to try and nullify Melbourne's play by crowding the game and attacking down the centre, but into the wind their game fell apart in the second quarter. They had a period of pressure during the term but it wasn't sustained and four late goals put Melbourne in a commanding position.

40 points down at the long break the Pies staged an amazing recovery and were within a goal late in the third term before Smith got his fourth to extend the margin to nine points at the last break. Deep in the last quarter with scores still tight Harold Ball goalled to seal the match and send Melbourne into the Grand Final.

Best was Cheffers.
