First selected by Hawthorn with pick 23 in the 1993 National Draft, Gibson was a full forward who had kicked 10 goals in the Under 18 Grand Final. He played three years with the Hawks and one at Collingwood before joining Preston in the VFA. HE appeared in Melbourne's Reserves during 1999, then captained Preston between 2000 and 2003
