Melbourne had another inaccurate start to a game, kicking 1.6 in the first quarter. After the break they found their scoring power, opening a 28 point margin with a fifth consecutive goal midway through the second term. Adelaide kicked the last three of the half, and were back in front by early in the third term.
The visitors cut the lead to less than 10 points early in the final quarter but couldn't find the goals needed to seriously challenge, going down to a fifth consecutive loss.
Best were May, Turner, and Pickett.
Harry Sharp replaced Koltyn Tholstrup in the fourth quarter.
