Melbourne's first win in a month came after a huge last quarter scare against the 18th placed Roos. Despite being winless until Round 13, North arguably entered the game with better recent form, while the Demons were still without Jake Lever, and had lost Christian Petracca for the season with injuries suffered on King's Birthday. They started well, with five of the six goals kicked in the second quarter, before forward line woes came back to haunt them again. Their only goal of the second term was via Trent Rivers on the run, but North was still held to three goals at half time. As players left the field for the break, a melee erupted between the sides that ended in several players being fined.

The Demons looked to have the game won when they led by 39 points late in the third quarter, but a late North goal gave them hope, before they stormed back into the game in the final term. Melbourne couldn't score, and the ball was deep in North's forward line when the siren went, but the home side held on to win by three points. It was the first time they failed to score in the last quarter and won since Round 15, 1964, and was the highest score the club had ever registered when kicking 0.0 in the fourth term.

First gamer Kynan Brown became the first modern day Melbourne player to start his debut as substitute. He replaced Christian Salem in the last quarter, and his first involvement was a crucial tackle in the middle of the ground.

Best were Viney, Rivers, and Gawn. Fines for the half time melee went to Harrison Petty ($1875), Blake Howes, Judd McVee, Koltyn Tholstrup, Daniel Turner and Jack Viney ($1250 each). Steven May was fined $1250 for staging for a free kick.
