The Demons conceded 10 goals in the first quarter a week earlier, coming back to win in the last few minutes and they continued their good goalkicking form with five goals in the first quarter.
St Kilda then kicked five in each of the next three quarters while Melbourne managed three, two and four to gradually fall further and further behind as the game went on.
Captain Colin Niven blamed the hard game they'd played on Monday for fading away.
