Carlton win by 18 points
Only MFC Game
Carlton went in as favourites but their over-confidence cost them early in the game and Melbourne kicked three goals in a row before the Blues sparked and got back in front by a point at the first change. The home side got the first goal of the second quarter, but from there Carlton dominated the play.
Four goals down at the start of the third quarter Melbourne dug in and won the second half by a goal but couldn't get close enough to cause their opponents any worries.
Best were Wright, Mills and McCart.
Newspaper reports make no mention of Gillespie.
