Defender/on-baller who came into the 1939 Grand Final side as a replacement for the suspended Wally Lock. The premiership victory was just his 11th senior game. Kimberley played just four more matches, one each in 1940 and 1941 before returning in 1944 for two more. He had first come to the club when Melbourne scouts were at Sandhurst to interview another player and he asked if he could have a trial as well. He impressed and was signed.

He was restricted to one game in 1940 after suffering a hand injury. Kimberley was sought by South Melbourne in the 1941 pre-season but Melbourne refused to let him go. He played one more game that year, two in 1942, a year in which he was also linked to Williamstown, then returned for two more in 1944. Joined Port Melbourne without a clearance in August 1945, after Brunswick and North Melbourne had both been given permission to interview him earlier in the season.
