At half time the Demons looked a chance of their first win of the season, and by the last change were still just seven points down before Essendon kicked away.
Melbourne kicked the first four goals of the game, and kicked all six of their second half goals in a row but other than that only their super accurate goalkicking kept them close.
McLean, Cordner and McPherson were best.
