He was originally supposed to be cleared to Richmond in 1894 to become their captain but was forced to miss the season with a relapse of Typhoid. He was linked with a return to Melbourne, but eventually switched to Richmond in May 1895, also captaining the local cricket team. Played 39 VFA games for Richmond until end 1896.
Won the Victorian lawn bowling championship in 1910.
