6'4" ruckman and former All-Australian amateur who was signed to bolster the Demon ruck division as help for Peter Keenan. Clennett continued to play as an amateur during his time at Melbourne, making him the last player to appear for the club without being paid.

Despite arriving at the club with a knee injury Clennett played 17 games in his rookie season and won praise for his early performances. He was described as a future star during his rookie year but had a delayed start to 1973 after dislocating his shoulder water skiing on the Murray River.

In 1975 Clennett returned to Tasmania to study but Melbourne demanded a $10,000 transfer fee from Sandy Bay. The Tasmanians offered to return $8000 of the total if Clennett came back to Victoria in 1976. He didn't go back, despite another attempt by the Demons to lure him in the 1978 pre-season. Clennett suffered a serious knee injury in the 1978 Tasmanian League pre-season.
