After losing his first bid for election to the board at the end of 1992, the Channel Nine executive succeeded at the end of the next year and served from 1994 to 2001.

He was vice-president from 1998 until May 2001 when he resigned as part of a peace deal upon the appointment of Gabriel Szondy to replace Joseph Gutnick.

Seconded the motion proposed by Bill Balcam for Melbourne to merge with Hawthorn at the meeting on 16 September 1996.
