Born in South Australia, Carr moved to Tocumwal for work in 1922 aged 21. After a season with Tatura in the Goulburn Valley league in 1925, he returned to Tocumwal and was captain for two years.
Known for his marking, the ruckman/tall defender was lured to Melbourne in 1928. He played four games over two years then left the club after limited opportunities.
Returned to Tocumwal in 1930, won their best and fairest that year, was appointed captain in 1930 and won another best and fairest in 1934. Won a premiership in his last game in 1935 before retiring.
Served in the army from 1942 to 1945.
