In front of their biggest home and away crowd since 1965, the Demons had to come to from behind to win the Anzac Day Eve game. Richmond had the better of the opening quarter to be three goals ahead at the first break. They still led at the last chance but a Clayton Oliver goal after the siren cut the margin to two. On the verge of being substituted, Jacob van Rooyen kicked three goals in the final term to break the game open and Melbourne went on to a comfortable win.
Best were Viney, Oliver and Petracca. Bailey Laurie replaced Trent Rivers in the fourth quarter.
