After two wins to the start the season the Demons entered more familiar territory by dropping below 50% for the year with their third straight loss.
The Demons, sans Carl Ditterich and Stan Alves, lead at the first change but withered until a nine goal Hawthorn assault in the second quarter. Bob Skilton was far from disappointed, saying "Hawthorn were just too strong but I was very pleased with a lot of our players".
A lack of tackling pressure and an inability to string multiple goals together cost the Dees, and their more experienced opponents did it comfortably.
Best were Biffin, who comfortably beat Michael Moncrieff, Guy and Lyons. Osborne (leg) was replaced by Delmenico at three quarter time and Clark by Sparks in the last quarter.
