The nephew of former St Kilda player Eric Guy, played for the Hawthorn Reserves in 1971 before returning to Carrum. He captain/coached Carrum to a Mornington Peninsula League premiership, and left to join Melbourne with the club on a 32 game winning streak. Guy made his VFL debut in Round 1, 1975 and played the first 15 games of the year. A dislocated shoulder ended his season, and he didn't return until Round 10, 1976. He played seven games to finish the year, before joining VFA side Frankston in 1977, then playing for Dandenong between 1978 and 1980.
