In what would be Melbourne's last ever match against the University club they achieved their second and final win for the season - both against the winless Students.

The match was played on a heavy ground courtesy of a public school match having been played there the day before, which had cut up the turf.

Melbourne jumped their opponents early, and it was only strong defensive work by the University defence which kept them within a goal. The second quarter was the best of the day, with each side playing good football but Melbourne using better judgement and extended their lead to over three goals.

University had chances in the third quarter but missed several chances in the forward line while their opponents converted most of theirs to kick away to a healthy lead.

Best were McKenzie, Best and Bacquie.
