The son of a State and Federal MP, Arthur Fitzroy Best was cleared to Melbourne before Round 4, 1914.
Best made his debut shortly afterwards and only played one season with Melbourne but topped the club's goalkicking. In his last game, Round 18, 1914 Best kicked Melbourne's entire score of 5.5 against South Melbourne at the Lake Oval. He enlisted in the Army shortly after, served with the 58th Battalion in Egypt and never played league football again.
