The free scoring Tigers, already known as the highest scoring team in the competition, kept their form with a big win over the Demons but there were worrying signs for Richmond with Melbourne amassing 35 scoring shots.
That the bottom side were so inept with their scoring shots that they only managed 11 goals was not the issue, but it would have given some heart to long suffering Demons fans who hadn't seen a decent forward line in years.
Melbourne had only had two less scoring shots at half time but had kicked themselves out of the game and were nearly five goals down, then Richmond ran riot in the third with 10.2 - including nine goals in the space of 20 minutes. They added another four in the first 15 minutes of the last term before allowing Melbourne back into some semblance of respectability with four goals of their own.
Best were Sullivan, Ditterich and Hardeman
