A week after losing their unbeaten start to the season, the Demons faced another interstate side at the MCG and lost again. They blew another comfortable lead, 26 points up early in the second quarter before conceding five of the last six goals of the second half.

Unlike their loss to Fremantle, the game remained competitive during the second half. A Max Gawn goal to open the last quarter gave Melbourne a 13 point lead, but they only added another point for the game, and were beaten by four consecutive Swans goals.

Best were Gawn, Fritsch and Viney. Toby Bedford was an unused substitute. Harrison Petty injured his shin and shoulder. Mitch Brown replaced Tom McDonald (foot) in the selected side.
