Brother of Brian and Jim Stynes played Reserves in 1997 while on holiday in Australia. He also played for Old Xaverians Under 19s during his time in Melbourne.

Played for Ireland in the 2002, 2005 and 2011 AFL International Cup tournaments.

In 2011 he coached Moorabbin in the Southern Football League, where he won a Division 3 premiership in 2012 and remained to the end of 2014.
