Melbourne arrived in Sale by train in the morning and played in front of a large crowd on the local cricket ground in the afternoon. Sale added players from Heyfield, Maffra, Toongabbie and Cowwarr but it was still a one sided clash.

Melbourne were in front 27 to nil at quarter time before Sale won the second by 15 to 9. The third quarter was an exact repeat of the first, with Melbourne again scoring 27 to nothing.

Best were Conquest, Nolan and Parkin. Vin Coutie was Melbourne's acting captain.
