Lightly played across six years with Geelong, Brown got his chance to be a regular AFL player when signed by Essendon in 2016. He'd already played for them as a replacement during the 2015 pre-season, before returning permanently the next season when they had a number of players banned for drug violations. Played with the Bombers until the end of 2019 when he was delisted, then signing for Melbourne as a pre-season free agent.

Brown won another contract despite only playing five games, one of his side's best in the Round 18 win over Essendon. In 2021 he only appeared in one game, kicking two goals but was retained on the list for 2022. With Melbourne's forward stocks affected by injuries, Brown played two games in Round 12 and Round 13, and was recalled into the side a final time in Round 16. He retired after playing in the Casey Demons Grand final victory
