Image The Demons horror nine match losing streak finally came to an end after some close calls in the month before. They had almost beaten Port Adelaide four weeks before, the Western Bulldogs a week later and North Melbourne in their previous match but had come up short both times.

Shocked by an eight goal to one second quarter Adelaide attempted to flood to stop the Demons. Melbourne kicked the first goal of the second half through Russell Robertson to extend their lead above 40 points before their opponents steadied. After chipping away at the lead in the third quarter the Crows mounted a last term comeback but the margin was too large and the Demons held on to register their first victory of the season.

With Adelaide coming strongly captain David Neitz kicked a goal from almost 60m 21 minutes into the last quarter out to give his side valuable breathing room.

The Crows had been dull and defensive across the first three quarters, and their rush came too late but they had some excuses with the Crows reduced to 20 fit men for the second half due to two injuries.

Best were Green, Bell and Bruce. Aaron Davey jarred his knee.

Coach Neale Daniher said "We are a long, long, long way from the eight, but we are looking foward to the second half of the year. A few of the teams that may have 'we've got Melbourne', they'll be thinking again I reckon."
