Key forward selected with Melbourne's only pick in the 2024 Mid-Season Rookie Draft. A spot on the list was available due to the pre-season retirement of Angus Brayshaw. Kentfield had been considered by the club at the end of 2023, before they opted to select Kynan Brown in the 2023 Rookie Draft.
When drafted, Kentfield had nine goals in 12 senior WAFL appearances, and had played in Subiaco's 2023 Preliminary Final side. He played out the season with Casey Demons in the VFL and signed a one year contract extension to keep him at the club through 2025.
