The sides played a virtual elimination final, with the winner guaranteed a spot in the Grand Final and Melbourne being eliminated by a loss. They opened the game kicking with a strong breeze, but despite dominating forward play were unable to kick more than one goal. The Demons got a vital goal into the wind in the second quarter, but for the second time only kicked a single major while keeping their opponents scoreless when they had the advantage.
In a tight last quarter, a goal by Kate Hore put Melbourne ahead with six minutes left, but in the last 90 seconds the Dogs retook the lead and went on to the Grand Final.
Best were Paxman, D. Pearce and L. Pearce. Sarah Lampard suffered a serious knee injury. Shelley Scott and Katherine Smith were both reprimanded for engaging in rough conduct.
