Despite often kicking big bags of goals in the Reserves during 1970 he was restricted to five senior games because one of the few areas of the senior side that was performing was the forward line led by Ross Dillon and Ray Carr.

Legend has it that before a reserves Grand Final, Colcott had his hair taken to by scissor wielding coach Ian Ridley who had previously ordered him to have a haircut.

Colcott joined VFA side Oakleigh in 1972, remaining there to 1977, then joining country side Hay Rovers for one season in 1978.
