Despite regularly kicking big bags of goals in the Reserves during 1970, Colcott he was restricted to five senior games. He had the misfortune of being a forward, with Ross Dillon and Ray Carr leading one of the few parts of the team that was performing.
Legend has it that before a reserves Grand Final, Colcott had his hair taken to by scissor wielding coach Ian Ridley who had previously ordered him to have a haircut.
Colcott joined VFA side Oakleigh in 1972, remaining there to 1977, then joining country side Hay Rovers for one season in 1978.
