In front of a paltry crowd in Sydney against the financially troubled Swans the Demons crashed to their second straight loss to open the season.

Melbourne were terrible in the first half and were 39 points down at the long break. They chipped away at the margin in the third before, aided by a four goal breeze, unleashing a withering comeback in the last quarter which fell just short.

Best were Flower, Johnson and Healy.
