"Toots" O'Loughin was a former Richmond captain who had played there from 1887 to 1890, lured to Melbourne in 1891 with the promise of a job at the Warehouseman's Ground.
O'Loughlin retired before the 1893 season to become assistant trainer to Jim Mitchell but played games.
Left for Queensland in 1894 but returned for one game in 1895, then served as vice-captain in 1896
