At the start of the season the club's assets were listed as two footballs but no money. JM Nichols was appointed secretary and treasurer in late April but resigned his posts two weeks later and was replaced by A. Hope.
The season represented the low point of the popularity of football. Participation at the Melbourne club was at its lowest point and the original St Kilda club folded.
The first scratch match of the season was played on Saturday 25 April. Further scratch matches were played on Saturday 16 May when St Kilda were unable to fulfil a scheduled match and again when they couldn't play on Saturday 23 May. A number of matches were cancelled throughout the year due to rain.
Matches against University for the Calendonian Cup were not completed until the third attempt after two draws. There were also a number of postponements, and a further scratch match was played on Saturday 15 August.
