Originally selected by the Swans with the second last pick of the 2007 Rookie Draft, Terlich was delisted after one year. He joined SANFL side Norwood in 2009 and spent the next five years with them before being drafted by Melbourne after a best on ground performance in the 2012 SANFL Grand Final.

Terlich debuted in the second round of 2013, in Melbourne's 148 point loss to Essendon. It was the biggest debut loss ever suffered by a Melbourne player and the 11th largest by any player in VFL/AFL history. Despite the rocky start, Terlich was one of his side's best players in their horror 2013 season. He missed just one more match for the rest of the year and finished third in the Best and Fairest for his brave play in defence.

His 2014 campaign was less successful. After the first nine games he was dropped for the first time, and only played 15 matches in total. the first nine matches of the season before being dropped and only managing 15 matches in total. He signed a new two year contract before the 2015 season but failed to play a senior game, spending both years with Casey. Late in his VFL career he became a forward, but was not selected for another senior game.

Delisted at the end of 2016 he returned to Norwood. From 2018 to 2020 he captain/coached Tanunda, then became captain/coach of Uraidla Districts.
