After 18 straight losses at Docklands Melbourne's annual home match at the ground, this time against fellow cellar-dwellers Brisbane represented an excellent chance to finally snap the streak.
The two sides bumbled through three quarters in a low standard match, with Melbourne wasteful in front of goal in the third quarter. They got their first major of the term after the three quarter time siren courtesy of Dom Tyson, and when Rohan Bail got the first goal of the last term they had opened up a lead of 15 points.
Brisbane then surged, trampling a lifeless Demon side as they booted six goals without reply.
Best were Tyson, McDonald and Howe. Cameron Pedersen suffered a broken nose courtesy of Lion Daniel Merrett during a marking contest and Tom McDonald an ankle injury - both in the last quarter.
Jay Kennedy Harris replaced Luke Tapscott during the third quarter when Tapscott suffered a knee injury.
