Ruckman who was on Melbourne's list before his 16th birthday in 1973 and played Under 19s at the start of the year before returning home. He returned to play seniors two years later, where he was picked as a reserve for one game, wasn’t called off the bench, was dropped the next week and didn't get into the team again.
He then returned to Mooroopna midway through 1975 before joining Werribee without a clearance in 1976. He won their 1978 Best and Fairest. Returning to Mooroopna for a third he won the Goulburn Valley Football League's Morrison Medal for best and fairest player in 1979.
In 1980 he coached Kyabram for a season before coaching Ardlethan in 1983 and Wagga Tigers in 1984. That year he was also in charge of the Riverina League representative team. Ough finished his career playing for Burleigh Heads in Queensland
His son Wayne was a member of the Australian Baseball team and won a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics. His mother ran a boarding house for young Melbourne players in Armadale.
