The Reds continued their much improved form with an easy win against their oldest rivals, who were badly affected by injury. They racked up a four goal lead at quarter time and continued to keep their opponents at arm's length for the rest of the day. They had been forced to find substitutes for Sowden, Rippon and Adams but it didn't hurt them too badly.
Carlton had their chances, but if Melbourne had kicked straight they would have won by an even more impressive margin.
Best were Wardill, Cumberland and Geddes. Dan Moriarty was reported for 'Umpire Jostling' and found guilty.
Notes
Arthur Sowden is listed as playing, but it's likely that he was replaced by Byers.
