After a fighting performance in losing against Collingwood a week earlier, the Demons got their season back on track with a win over the Seasiders that was not always comfortable. At first they were on the right track, with Eric Glass kicking five of his seven goals in the opening term.

The eventual final margin was a fair representation of the gap between the two sides, but on more than one occasion St Kilda had got to within a couple of goals before the home side steadied and extended the gap back to around five goals.

La Fontaine was best. He had 26 kicks, a massive amount for the era.
