Guy "Lou" Reiffel was cleared to Melbourne a week before the 1936 season after two premierships in Ballarat. He had been considered too small for league football by scouts from most teams, but played three full seasons at the highest level.
Reiffel kicked a career high eight goals in the Round 16, 1937 victory over Collingwood, with six coming in the last term as Melbourne overcame their equal largest deficit at three quarter time to win. When he left Melbourne after finding his opportunities limited in 1939 he was sought by a number of VFA clubs before joining South Melbourne in mid-1939. He played 29 games at South and was their leading goalscorer in 1940.
His son Ron played six games for Richmond in 1951/1952, and grandson Paul was an Australian international cricketer.
