The ground was in poor condition, with a quagmire in the centre of the field and drizzle falling during the second half, but Melbourne weren't troubled as they eventually pulled away to an easy win. The Students had stuck with them for three quarters - and scores were equal at the last change - but Melbourne had too much gas in the tank and crushed Varsity in the last quarter.
Jack Leith played as a fill-in for Pearce, who was suffering from influenza and in his first game since Round 8 the previous season he held down Pearce's position in the backline without much trouble.
Robertson, McKenzie and Naismith were best.
