Initially recruited as a forward Odgers eventually played in defence.

After missing much of 1912 when he moved to the country Odgers returned under the assumed name "Hughes" (though it was hinted at in that week's Football Record that it was an open secret it was Odgers) to play the last two games of the season. He trained with his old side in June 1913 but didn't play another game for seven seasons, serving in World War I from 1916 and playing a final season in 1920.

Before the 1922 season started he was granted a clearance to New South Wales club Newtown, as he needed to move for business reasons. He played there for two seasons and represented New South Wales in state games.
