After a week off for the bye, Melbourne recovered from their disappointing loss to Brisbane, in the Anzac Eve fixture. Facing former player and coach Adem Yze for the first time, the Demons struggled through a scrappy first half marred by skill errors. A goal in the opening seconds to Jacob van Rooyen was followed by just two more before the long break, leaving the Tigers a point ahead. Melbourne took control in the second half, with Daniel Turner kicking two of his three goals after a surprise call-up off the back of one VFL game as a forward. Richmond was still in range shortly before three quarter time, when an errant kick in defence allowed Caleb Windsor to mark and goal. Melbourne won the last quarter easily, with substitute Bailey Laurie kicking two goals after replacing Windsor for the final term.

Max Gawn was awarded the Checker Hughes Medal for best on ground.

Best were Gawn, Lever and Turner.
