Richard Wardill

Born in Liverpool in 1835, Wardill migrated to Melbourne around 1858 and took up playing cricket. In the 1859/1860 season he transferred from Richmond to the MCC.

From 1859 he also played football with Melbourne, but also appeared with Richmond where he was named secretary in July 1860 to replace Tom Wills. He also played with St Kilda in 1860 and 1861. He also served as secretary of the MCC until 1863.

An accountant by trade he was captain of the cricket club in 1864 and was the first batsman ever to score a century in an inter-colonial cricket match. He was unanimously elected secretary and treasuer of the football club in 1865.
