With both teams out of the race for the top four the two sides played a spirited match, and despite neither team kicking a goal in the last quarter the Reds won a game described as 'willing' despite the lack of prizes on offer.

Despite only kicking one goal Harry Brereton won the league goalkicking when Fitzroy's Freake also only managed one.

Tomkins, George and Hendrie were the best.

Jack Evans and Herb Joolen were reported for striking. Evans was cleared of hitting a player in the face with two fists but Joolen was outed for four matches for striking his opponent to the back of the head. Defending the players Mr. Cattlin of Melbourne referred to the St Kilda steward who laid the charges as "overzealous and an extremist."
