Backing up a week after their emotional win for Jim Stynes many doubted that the Demons could make it two in a row for the first time since 2007.
Port Adelaide had beaten Brisbane comfortably the week before and were expected to keep pushing for the 8 with a big win, but they were sluggish in the first quarter and allowed the Demons to jump to an early lead. That it was only 5 points at quarter time was due to several wasteful misses by Demon forwards.
One forward who wasn't missing was Liam Jurrah. The young man from the Northern Territory booted the Demons last three goals of the term.
By midway through the third quarter the lead was out to over five goals, but Port struck back to the point where they were within two straight kicks with a minute and a half left. Brett Ebert missed a gettable chance and the Demons iced the clock for their second straight victory in front of a small but passionate MCG crowd.
Best were Bruce, Jurrah and Petterd.
