Yet another thrashing for the Reds when they travelled next door to the East Melbourne Ground to take on the 'same olds'. In front of a 'comparatively small' crowd the favourites did as they were expected and took care of the visitors.
The match was over at quarter time, and even though Melbourne only lost the second term by two points they were beaten easily in the third and fourth quarters and the match served as shooting practice for the Essendon forwards. Melbourne's defenders failed to show much resistance.
The loss left Melbourne one game about University in second last and a full five wins below Richmond.
Bill McKenzie was Melbourne's best. Baquie, Hendrie, Gray, Incigneri, Lilley and Trahair were also amongst the better players.
