Entering the carnival week Melbourne travelled to play the great disappointments so far of 1921 and stormed to a lead of over five goals at the end of the first change.
They barely had a dint taken out of the lead at three quarter time, but the worrying signs began in the third when they managed just three behinds despite kicking with the stiff breeze. South rattled him with 5.8 to nothing in the final term and came over the top as easy winners in terrible conditions.
P. Wilson, Matthews and Haines were Melbourne's best.
