A late draft pick from the Port Adelaide SANFL junior sides, Weetra had an interrupted first season at Sandringham and spent much of his time in their reserves. A shock selection for Round 1, 2008 he retained his place the next week but was underwhelming in the Demons second consecutive massive loss, leaving him with an average losing margin of 99.5 over his two games.

By mid-season he had returned to the Sandringham reserves and was delisted at the end of the season. Weetra returned to the Port Adelaide Magpies in 2009 and made his senior debut for them that year. He later joined the Canning Tigers team in Perth, playing for them in 2012 and 2013.
