Saturday August 15 - University Reserve
University 1.8
Melbourne 3.16 (half time 1.7 to 0.3)
Melbourne win by 2 goals
In front of a handful of spectators, Melbourne travelled to University's ground for the first time and earned their fourth win of the year. Having already beaten Uni once two months before it made them the first side Melbourne had beaten twice in 1885.
University were greatly weakened by the loss of a number of their best players, but took the lead into half time after dominating but missing a number of easy chances. Immediately after the restart the home side lost two more players to injury, and coupled with the advantage of a strong wind Melbourne ran away with victory.
Best were Carroll, Strahan and Johnson.
